Black cherry, also known as prunus serotina is native to the region of North America. It is a woody plant whose reddish black fruit supplies several vitamins to the body and also some very powerful phytochemicals. It also is a rich source of antioxidants including polyphenols and anthocyanins.

Thanks to the rich nutrition content of the fruit, several companies have been trying to bottle the juice of the fruit to facilitate consumption in large amounts more feasible. Not just the juice, these companies have also been trying to bottle even the black cherry concentrates, using the specialized process which includes extraction and filtration. These concentrates contain a very large quantity of the vital nutrients in them as compared to the juice of the black cherries. Black cherry may trigger an allergic reaction in the bodies of those people who are already allergic to other kinds of fruits. If you are on some kind of medication then it would be wiser to consult your doctor before you include the black cherry in your diet as it is known to interfere with medications for cancer, allergies, high cholesterol, fungal infections and also sedatives. It is also recommended that pregnant or breast feeding women do not consume it.
